Old Folks Home - Sri Pritchard, Kinarut Papar

It has been almost two weeks that I've undergone my Clinical posting in the Old Folks home at Sri Pritchard, Kinarut Papar with 13 others course mates. At first when I was there, it was no strange place for me since I have been there before. But being able to go and getting accustom to the place is a whole new level.

The people there are kind... they have one Staff Nurse - S/N Rosnie .. a lovely person and very dedicated to her work. I like to joke around with her ... she is indeed a person to look up to. Very much knowledgable and would willing to learn anytime. Its easy to talk to her cause she is an open book basically. She is incharged if the Big Boss is not there...

Then we have the nurses... - Izyana (which I called her Kak KuChik and also Foo)... I love to sit down and have a chat and they are not stingy in sharing information about all the old folks in there... very focused on their job and very well mannered I would say.

The rest of the helpers - Kak Mi Lin, Kak Rupina, Kak Dayang, Kak Rita, Kak Jovita, Kak Nor, Abg Mat, Abg Rahim (Ayahanda), Abg Yusid, Abg Man, and many others (sorry Im yet to learn most of the people's name there)... without this people to run the place I guess it would be a disaster. They are not shy to touch and hold and care for the old folks. Handling every single thing be it bathe, food, waste, poo, urine.. you name it.. they did it all... and been doing it for many years and I am sure many more years to come...

First week, Ive been put incharge in the female ward. A place where those who aren't able to care for themselves anymore (old folks - female). First when I stepped in it was a surprised to see how fragile they all are. Honestly, at first I have no confidence in myself to be handling such fragile person. Dealing with unwell old folks (bed ridden/sick) and dealing with old folks is two different things all together... this time I must be more determined that I can do it...

From bathing to feeding to chatting to putting them to bed is such a workout honestly...
I just hope I did it well...

More stories to come about my posting...
cheers
Kay
